Shiraz Vertical Garden

The subject of the competition was to design a memorial for remembrance and honor of the soldiers killed in the war for defending Iran in 8 years of attack. The project’s site is called “Roof of the Shiraz”, a unique site located on a flat area at top of a mountain beside Shiraz city. Shiraz is known as the city of poets, literature, and flowers. It is also considered by many Iranians to be the “city of gardens” due to the presence of many amazing historical gardens that can be seen throughout the city.

So, despite the main subject of the competition(memorial), it was essential to consider an appropriate response to the site context. Indeed, It was important for us to design a memorial that could engage people actively while presenting a sculptural monument. This led us to design a symbolic monument that invites people inside a vertical garden to have immersive experiences reminding valuable concepts, such as resistance and sacrifice.
